Westlake vs Agoura

The Warriors (7-0) may not just be the best team in the state, they may be the best team in the country. They have no weaknesses. Great offense led by QB Nick Isham, RB Tavior Mowry and WR Nelson Spruce. Great defense with amazing depth and eight sophomores or juniors getting key playing time. They’re loaded. They won’t find too many problems in this game against Agoura. Agoura (2-5) finally stopped the bleeding. They had a five-game losing streak halted at Calabasas last week and look to pull off a gigantic upset to follow it up. Problem is, they just don’t have the talent and speed to matchup with Westlake. Gerard Poutier, who is the fourth leading total yardage gainer (1,607) in the Northern Division will have his hands full with an aggressive Warrior defense.

Prediction: Westlake 56 Agoura 10

Agoura vs Calabasas

Don’t look now, but the Coyotes have a realistic chance to with their third Marmonte League game and go over .500 for the season this week at home. Who would have thought that the team the league tried to kick out would do so much damage after going winless in league play for so many years? The (3-3) Coyotes are led by the impressive Sophomore back Tyson Jones. Agoura (1-5) comes in on a five-game losing streak. Gerard Poutier and company would like for nothing more than to halt that streak against Calabasas on Friday night. We’ve seen the team play up to its potential on defense against Thousand Oaks, but they will have to click on all cylinders if they want to win another game this season in the ultra-competitive Marmonte League. I will go with Agoura just because it feels weird to ever pick the Coyotes as a winner, but I will certainly be a believer in Larry Edwards and this team next year should they win.

Prediction: Agoura 21 Calabasas 17

Agoura vs Newbury Park

Agoura at Newbury Park – If you like seeing plenty of offense, this game should wet your appetite. Quarterbacks Gerard Poutier (867 yards) and Jake Geringer (823 yards) lead the Northern Division in passing yardage. Newbury Park (1-2) comes in tough losers to two quality Marmonte opponents in Thousand Oaks and Moorpark. They have to be excited to see Agoura this week before getting another Marmonte juggernaut in St. Bonaventure next week. The Panthers are pretty much in a must-win situation in week four. They will hope Geringer can connect with his favorite target Dakota Dunlea early and often, which hasn’t been too much of a challenge this season considering Dunlea is averaging 102 receiving yards a game. Agoura (1-2) needs to establish any semblance of a rush game. It’s nice that Poutier has thrown for the most yards in the Northern Division, but defenses will begin sending all-out blitzes and keying on him should the team continue to falter in the rushing game. 52 rushing yards a game will not get it done at this level and especially against good teams. The good news for the Chargers is if they find a rushing game and become a two-dimensional offense at some point, their passing game will become that much better with the threat of the play-action pass. Agoura will fight hard, but won’t be able to get over the hump.

Prediction: Newbury Park 35 Agoura 17

Agoura vs Moorpark

AGOURA at MOORPARK – Moorpark (1-1, 1-0) survived a scare against Newbury Park. They needed a two-point conversion from Grant Rohach to Quinn Bauducco with just 1:07 remaining in the game to complete their 15 point fourth quarter rally. For the second straight week, the Musketeers dug themselves a hole, trailing 30-16 with less than three minutes to go, but this time, they won. If you’re a Moorpark fan, you would certainly like to see the team get out to a fast start this week against Agoura (1-1, 0-1). Moorpark is led by Minnesota commit Bauducco, Rohach who completed 25-of-32 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns last week and RB Tyler Petersen, who is averaging 98 yards a game. The Chargers will try to unleash their full aerial assault on Moorpark after just falling short against Simi Valley last week. In an ongoing theme in the first week of the super Marmonte League, games coming down to the wire, the Chargers lost with just 1:36 remaining. The Chargers are led by QB Gerard Poutier, who is averaging 315 yards a game, and knows how to spread the ball around. In just two games four Charger receivers have more than 115 yards receiving. However, Poutier needs to cut down on his four interceptions. Agoura can’t afford to be giving up turnovers against the great competition they’ll see all year.

Prediction: Moorpark 42 Agoura 21
