Thousand Oaks Girls Volleyball Wins 35th Consecutive League Match

The Lancers swept the Warriors for their 35th consecutive league victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-18).

UC Davis commit Kendall Frisoli finished with nine kills for Thousand Oaks, Jane Lamp added 13 digs and Amanda Lichtl had 32 assists.

Julia Mannisto had a game-high 12 kills and nine digs for Westlake, while Teini Elisara had 27 assists and Paige Rasmussen was diving all over the place with 20 digs.

Westlake vs Agoura

The Warriors (7-0) may not just be the best team in the state, they may be the best team in the country. They have no weaknesses. Great offense led by QB Nick Isham, RB Tavior Mowry and WR Nelson Spruce. Great defense with amazing depth and eight sophomores or juniors getting key playing time. They’re loaded. They won’t find too many problems in this game against Agoura. Agoura (2-5) finally stopped the bleeding. They had a five-game losing streak halted at Calabasas last week and look to pull off a gigantic upset to follow it up. Problem is, they just don’t have the talent and speed to matchup with Westlake. Gerard Poutier, who is the fourth leading total yardage gainer (1,607) in the Northern Division will have his hands full with an aggressive Warrior defense.

Prediction: Westlake 56 Agoura 10

Westlake vs Newbury Park

The (6-0) Warriors come into the game ranked 11th nationally by Maxpreps. The Warriors are led by their super efficient quarterback Nick Isham who has completed 77 percent of his passes. Tavior Mowry carries the load on the ground game with 527 yards and WR Nelson Spruce is just out of this world. Spruce already has offers from many west coast schools, but he’s still awaiting some of the bigger Pac-10 schools to offer him a scholarship. As long as Westlake keeps on winning, he’ll get more and more exposure – and with that exposure I see no reason why a program like UCLA wouldn’t be willing to take a chance on him. The Panthers (2-4) are having a disappointing season. They lost to Calabasas last week, which is never good and now may not even make the playoffs. They do have a chance for two major upsets, and if they beat Westlake or Oaks Christian – they would finish 5-5 and in great shape for an at-large berth to the playoffs. The Panthers will need to rely heavily on Jake Geringer’s arm if they have any chance in this game. Westlake is just too darn good.

Prediction: Westlake 42 Newbury Park 21

Westlake at Oaks Christian

Westlake at Oaks Christian – It’s the game of the week in beautiful Westlake Village. This game has been 11 years in the making and both schools, which are less than a mile away from each other, are looking forward to it. Westlake (3-0) is ranked the top team in the state of California in many polls and will get their second major test of the year. Their first, against Thousand Oaks, was passed with flying colors. The Warriors are led by RB Tavier Mowry, who is averaging 13.1 yards per carry. Mowry and WR Nelson Spruce give the Warriors big play potential and can take it to the house at any moment. Starting QB Nick Isham isn’t too shabby himself. He knows how to get his entire offense involved. In just three games, he has completed 78 percent of his passes to 13 different Warrior receivers. Oaks Christian (2-1) already had a miraculous come-from-behind victory against St. Bonaventure and comes in looking to make their second statement of the young season. It’s unclear who will start at QB for the Lions, but Richie Harrington has really outperformed Trevor Gretzky so far. Harrington has thrown for six touchdowns and no interceptions, while Gretzky has recorded only one touchdown compared to three interceptions. The teams was so excited for Harrington, that they nicknamed him “Falco” in practice. Although I’m an Oaks alum, I have to go with my head on this pick. The Lions are not deep enough to contend with Westlake throughout the course of the game and really pulled a rabbit out of a hat just to beat St. Bonaventure two weeks ago. Also, the shaky placekicking may really cost them should this game be close.

Prediction: Westlake 34 Oaks Christian 20

Royal at Westlake

ROYAL at WESTLAKE – Royal (2-0, 1-0) will attempt to win the time of possession war through the strength of its Marmonte League leading rusher Kyle Gauthier. (251 yards) The Highlanders will have their hands full with the best team in the Southern Section. Westlake is ranked No. 1 in the state on Maxpreps and sixth nationally. The Warriors are coming off a 31-3 beat down of their rival, Thousand Oaks, which aired on Fox Sports West and have won a school record 16 straight games. RB Tavier Mowry, who is averaging 104.5 yards a game, and QB Nick Isham, 77 percent passes completed, lead the Warriors.

Prediction Westlake 42 Royal 14
