SCCBL Season Preview

The first week of games is underway and there’s a lot of anticipation for the seventh season. This year, four teams return: the two-time defending champion Palm Springs Power, last year’s runner-up, the Long Beach Legends, plus Team San Diego and the High Desert Heat are also back. The two new additions this year will be the Inland Valley Pirates and Riverside Rebels. Both teams figure to play a large factor in the final SCCBL standings this summer and we can’t wait to see them in action and live for select games on sccbaseball.com.

palm springs powerThe Power surged to a club best 42 victories, while hoisting up their fourth SCCBL crown in six seasons. Anthony Torres is back after winning the batting title with a ridiculous .415 batting average. He will be joined by fellow All-SCCBL performer Ryan DeJesus, who posted a microscopic 1.02 ERA in 2012.

legends picThe Legends are hoping to make 2013 legendary. They return three all-SCCBL selections in Steven Garber, Aaron Gray and Danny Haley. Garber was the model of consistency this past season leading the league in five different categories. (hits, RBI, runs, doubles and walks) Many newcomers will contribute as well including pitcher Jeff Curran, who led Fullerton College to the Junior College State Championship game, University of Buffalo pitcher Brandon Bentley and the speed demon Hugo Rodriguez from West L.A. College.
