Rebels Stun Legends

conlinThe Riverside Rebels (9-19, 4-15) defeated the Long Beach Legends (33-21, 12-7) 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Long Beach City College.

Brandon Conlin was electric, working eight-plus innings while only allowing five hits and one run. Kyle Jones worked a solid ninth inning and picked up the save.

The Legends struck first in the bottom of the fourth when Steven Garber’s RBI sacrifice fly scored Matt Chavez to make it 1-0.

Riverside answered immediately with one run in the top of the fifth as Randy Bruce scored on an RBI by Daxton Deal to knot it up at 1-1.

The Rebels added one more run in the top of the ninth. SCCBL all-star Seth Walston scored on an RBI by Josh Alonzo to give Riverside its first lead at 2-1.

Long Beach fought in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but couldn’t come through in the end.

Riverside’s season is now finished, while Long Beach travels to play the West Coast Storm in a doubleheader tomorrow before hosting the Palm Springs Power in Game One of the SCCBL Playoff Series on Tuesday
