Woodland Hills Little League Falls, but Remains Upbeat

Woodland Hills lost 8-1 to Encino Saturday afternoon at Northridge Little League.

The Encino bats exploded in the bottom of the first for five runs, so Woodland Hills immediately had to play catch-up the rest of the game.

Encino added two more runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-0.

Woodland Hills came alive in the fifth. Harrison Bauer belted his second double of the day and Sam Housner ripped an RBI single scoring Bauer.

Encino answered adding another run to make it 8-1.

Woodland Hills continued fighting in the sixth inning. Jonah Klichman, Liam Douglass and Felix Campos loaded the bases, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Some teams might fold after losing the first game in the tournament, but Woodland Hills Little League’s spirit is not broken.

“When we were 10, we had to do the same thing,” said Jackson Despain. “We made it all the way to the championship, so we’re kind of used to it.”

Woodland Hills’ next game will be against the Loser of Game 7 at 9 a.m. next Sunday.

“I think we’re going to come back a lot more hungry to win,” said Daniel Wagner.
