The 14-and-under Encino Little League team (7-0) has dominated its competition in the first two tournaments, outscoring opponents 72-21. After falling in the Sectional Championship the past two years, one game shy of the Southern California Divisional Tournament, Encino is poised to make a deep run. Encino is one of 10 teams left in Southern California and one of 16 in the entire state.
Encino will play either North Venice or Saticoy in the divisional tournament at Tehachapi Little League on Sunday at 10 a.m. Encino should feel right at home in Tehachapi because that is where they just won the sectional tournament last Tuesday.
If Encino wins the 10-team divisional tournament, they will advance to the Western Regional in Irvine, the final step in qualifying for the World Series in Taylor, Mi.
In the Western Regional, the state champions from Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Northern California, Southern California, Utah and Washington will all vie for the one western bid.
